Alanis Morissette releases another single from her severely underrated “Flavors of Entanglement”, and it’s a pretty mellow, laid-back choice. No matter where your head is at beat-wise, though, it’s a quality song…check out “Not As We”:
Once again, I come across a song that I liked upon first glance, but really resonates with my current circumstances:
Day one, day one
Start over again
Step one, step one
I’m barely making sense
For now I’m faking it
‘Til I’m psuedo-making it
From scratch, begin again
But this time I as I
And not as we
Great imagery in both the song and the video. While Alanis tends to speak in generalities, this one has a pretty clear purpose statement.
This was probably my favorite song off of Alanis’ latest CD. Glad to see that it is getting a single release. I am always excited when artists still bother to make videos for songs even though the relevance of videos is questionable at best these days. Perhaps it’s because I grew up eagerly anticipating videos for songs.
I also noticed that sonically, the song seems “beefed up” a bit.
I’ll have to go back and listen to the track from the CD again, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did. Sadly, this doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in Hell of being a full-fledged hit here in the States.
