The whole idea of an artist releasing multiple singles before the full-length drops is becoming more and more common, and Eminem is utilizing that strategy with his upcoming “Relapse” project. Single #2 is “We Made You”, and it’s also the first video from the album, directed by Joseph Kahn. It’s Eminem doing his pop culture raunch, skewering Jason Mraz, Sarah Palin, Star Trek, Rock of Love, Jessica and Romo, Britney’s Circus, and even Rainman. It’s overkill, but any video with Bobby Lee in it can’t be all that bad, right?
There’s no denying that Eminem is a lyrical genius, but a lot of his mainstream success relies on brilliant hooks that catch the non-hip-hop crowd, and this one’s not really as strong as past hits. Given how the first single did (#1, then plummet), he’s got to be hoping this one has a lot more longevity.
This man has nothing else to accomplish. We will always remember his reign a few years back as it was quite meteoric. He should’ve left at the top completely than come back re-hasing. Times have changed.
His serious songs are complete genius. But he releases shlock like this in an attempt to cash in, and then he’ll pick on the kids who like the pop stuff. It’s hypocritical in my opinion. He should stick to the serious rather than calling out people who we know should be called out. Been there, done that.
You know, it’s pretty funny that E is following in Beyonce’s footsteps and releasing simultaneous singles. I bet he feels all manly now! LOL
zzzzzz…. Mel’s right, this is absolute hypocritical shlock.
More stuff like ‘Stan’ or ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ rather than ‘Without Me’ please Eminem.
Will-W, you nailed it.
Mel, Amen!
Yuri, no need to be sexist. He’s got that all covered on his own.
Adem, agreed.
