Debunking the “Janet Jackson’s career is over” mantra that some people have been reciting recently, here is the new video for “Nothing”, which is from the Why Did I Get Married Too soundtrack. The song has grown on me a lot, but in more successful times this would have only been an album cut. Now, it’s sad to say that Janet has to utilize whatever opportunity she can get to be out in the mainstream. I still think that Discipline was highly underrated, but after releasing a string of sub-par albums, can you blame the public for being jaded?
The video is actually a pretty classy affair, and Janet looks beautiful. Check it out below, and let me know what you think.
I really like it. It also sounds like a song Michael would done in the 90’s which is good. I think Tyler’s films should get more publicity. I would say the majority of Europeans haven’t heard of him. Have you seen any of them? Janet looks great too.
I have only seen brief bits of his movies when they come on TV and I am flipping through channels. And yeah, Janet looks great.
ahhh Janet, this is a choice ballad, almost a Again 2.0, and you are so right Discipline is such a brilliant album, her best in years, it was almost the Cotrol, RN1814, Velvet and Janet bliss years!
I know I’m in the minority but Janet’s highs have been bigger than Michael’s for me, ..se a vida e!
You’re making some pretty high claims there, a1. While a lot of Janet’s music may resonate with me more than Michael’s, I don’t know that I could say she had bigger highs. Both careers have been pretty spectacular.
Even La Toya would reject this shit. Poor Janet. Maybe she should organise a Good Times reunion.
You know, it’s not her best work, and I would never try to portray it as such. This song was written and performed for a movie that is targeted at middle-aged African American women, and the song resonates with that demographic. It will never be a pop hit, but it sure will do some serious damage on the Adult Urban charts.
And LaToya’s still broke broke broke.
I wasn’t impressed at first but now find myself wanting to go back and listen again which is a good thing I suppose 🙂
It is a good thing. It’s not going to set the world on fire, but I’m glad to see Janet just singing for once, without all of the gimmicks.
Uhh! I give up.
Even a diva has to strip it down sometime, Will-W!
Discipline was underrated. Folks are jaded; you hit that on the head. I guess this track is a grower.
Yeah…slow grower, I suppose.
